How the Education has shaped my Internet.....or the other way around

The internet has been both a great tool and a great distraction when it comes to my academic career! Though the good outweighs the bad, that's only be sheer force of will.

 When I think of how the internet in general has been for my studies, I think of different times in high school. For instance, many of my presentations in German class required numerous files gained through the internet in class sessions beforehand, while one instance actually required me to show the infamous Hare Hare Yukai dance video while I performed the dance myself! I single handedly turned a high school German class into an anime convention.

Other classes such as Web Design required internet usage, and doing my work well and fast to play Bubble Shooter was certainly an incentive to be punctual with assignments. This made Mr. Bryan like my web pages, although he much preferred a kid named Noah's. I promise you, their relationship was really unhealthy. I'm kind of getting sick just thinking about it. Anyways......I also began using the internet more at home due to many of the techniques that I had learned from school. These ranged from things I actually learned in Web Design class, or other, less....curricular endeavors. I'll give you a hint, they were games that were of video-like nature.




In college, however, the internet has been lightyears more of a distraction, as I would much rather sit around and play Starcraft II than do actual schoolwork any day. Let's be real, who wouldn't? I mean, it's not the unofficial official sport of South Korea just because it looks cool. Or maybe it is.........




This was honestly fine and under control for my first semester in college, but when I began to take art classes, things became......dissonant, to say the least. Not only did all hell break loose, but if you listen closely you can still hear the trumpets calling the demons back to hell. As I began to spend more time on the internet looking at funny videos, I spent less time working on drawings in the studio. Thus, what work I did get done was last minu-, no, millisecond. Ironically, the following semester would still be flooded with hours of video watching, yet my artwork improved. Many of these videos were also more educational, as I had begun to devour documentaries about Islam, cults, Mormonism, and the FLDS. Contrary to popular belief, I had already had World Religions a few semesters before!

 

All in all, I believe that for myself, the internet has been both a edutainment blessing, and a non-academic curse. I do not think, however, that this should deter anyone from incorporating the internet into their studies, or even their non-Academic life. I believe that self-control, something that I was obviously lacking in at the time, is key when it comes anything pleasurable and good. In fact, the ability to motivate ourselves to take care of our first priorities when we would rather do anything but is a key skill not just for college, but for life in general. Thus, even my non-educational endeavors were a learning experience!
